Golden Retriever puppy weight calculator

Golden Retrievers grow fast in their first six months, then spend most of their second year filling out. Height usually settles before weight does, so a lanky 10-month-old Golden still has some bulk to add.

How Golden Retriever puppies grow

  • Most of the weight gain happens before 6 months, when many Goldens reach about two-thirds of their adult weight.
  • Growth slows noticeably after 9–10 months. Males in particular keep broadening through the chest until around 18 months.
  • Field-bred lines tend to be lighter and leaner than show lines, so a slim Golden at the low end of the range can be perfectly healthy.

Tips for healthy growth

  • Feed a large-breed puppy food: controlled calcium and calories support steady, not rapid, bone growth.
  • Goldens gain weight easily. You should be able to feel the ribs under a thin layer of fat.
  • Ask your vet about the timing of neutering, which can affect growth-plate closure in large breeds.
